What is the JCYA Cheerleading Program about? The cheerleading program is designed for girls ages 5-14. Cheerleaders must be at least age 5 and no older than age 14. We are a NON-competitive cheer organization and do not require "try-outs", therefore, everyone can cheer! Our cheerleading organization will teach the girls the fundamentals of cheering, including: minimal of 40 cheers, several "pom" dances, jumps, tumbles, and FUN!!!!
What does it cost? $60.00 to cheer, $60.00 in raffles & $100.00 uniform deposit check. (There are discounts for multiple children in the league). Your cost will include the cheer shell and skirt. We will do fundraising to offset the cost of hairbows, crop tops, spanks shorts, poms, and year end party. We will also offer a buyout on each fundraiser we do should you not participate. We will order "team t-shirts" that the girls will wear for fundraising and special promotions.
When are the practices? The girls will practice the week of mini camp Tuesday, Weds, and Thursday and throughout August we will practice Wednesday and Thursdays. Once School starts we will practice on Thursday evenings from 6:15-8:30. If the coaches find it necessary additional practice time will be added.
What will we be teaching? We teach the cheerleaders a variety of cheers, a halftime routine and a super bowl routine. They will also learn many proper cheerleading techniques and jumps! We are as structured as possible. The first month of practice we try to keep control and may seem tough to the girls, this is to get them to understand the basic beginnings of coaching and respect. This has to happen this way in the beginning so the rest of the season goes smooth. We will be hitting the first month of practice hard so we need the cheerleaders to come to every practice and to be on time. Please bring water to every practice and take your child to the restroom BEFORE practice. After practice is over, you will need to come get your child from one of the coaches as they will not be allowed to be released without an adult, please help to pass this information to your child (especially the older ones)
When and where are the games? The games are mostly on Saturdays with occasional Sunday games! The times will vary but you will get a schedule once your daughter is placed on a squad. Check out our direction tab and see where all the places you may cheer at.
What happens on Game Day? Please have the cheerleaders arrive 30 minutes prior to game time. Have the cheerleader in her uniform with their hair pulled in a ponytail or back out of her face. They need to wear tennis shoe (white preferable) with white socks. Parents need to sit on the bleachers, and please pick up your trash when you leave. The Cheer Moms or coaches are the only ones allowed down on the field with the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders are not allowed food or snacks during game time. Once cold weather arrives the girls will wear their crop tops and black stretch pants under the uniform. ONLY APPROVED clothing will be allowed. No loose clothing under uniform.
Who is the Cheer Mom? The Cheer Mom is responsible for the girls during all of their games. The beginning of the game they are responsible to get the girls down by the goal post by the football players. They are to line up the girls on each side and cheer the football players as their names are called and run onto the field for the beginning of the game. Then they are to guide the girls to line up and get ready to cheer for the game. They will sit down by the girls and tell the girls what cheer to do next. They also get the girls and the music ready for the half time show and have the girls clap hands after each game by lining up behind the football players. Don't forget the Cheer Mom is in control not the cheerleaders. We will have a parent meeting within the first few weeks of practice, those interested in being a cheer mom, please let Coach Holly know.
Cheerleader Rules:
1. The cheerleaders need to stay with the Cheer Mom at all times. Should you venture away from the cheer mom during a game you will be verbally warned, and the second offense will result with your child sitting out the remainder of the game until spoken with either coach Holly or Coach Crystal.
2. Disrespect towards the coaches, cheer moms or another cheerleader could result in suspension for a full game. Any second infraction will result in suspension for 2 games, after a 3rd infraction you will be suspended for the year without a full refund. (Be respectful as there are a wide age range of girls and we lead by example.)
3. Present yourself at all times in good sportsmanship, ladylike conduct, and be a role model.
